Positive behavioural interventions and supports

Positive Behavioural Interventions & Supports (PBIS) is a problem solving framework that addresses social behaviour and academic outcomes. It is a systems approach to enhance the capacity of schools, families, and communities to design effective learning environments. PBIS is part of a broader movement that seeks to increase the application of evidence-based practices in schools.

The practices that PBIS promotes include:

  • school-wide discipline practices including establishing clear consequences
  • instruction in social skills
  • helping students regulate their own behaviour
  • helping teachers intervene effectively to manage behaviour in the classroom and other school environments
  • active supervision in all areas of the school
  • enabling the learning support team and PBIS team to plan and solve problems together

Teachers at Bradbury PS have used the framework to formulate our three school rules:

  • Be a Learner
  • Be Respectful
  • Be Safe

The Bradbury Public School PBIS matrix provides a clear understanding of our three school rules.

Safe, Respectful, Learners at Bradbury School are recognised and rewarded.  Read about the PBL Awards in 2018 and view the PBL Awards Graphic for more information.
